Episode 081 - Revitalizing Culture Through Business with Christine Marie of Awasis Boutique
Today on Celebrating Simple Life the Podcast, I’m talking with Christine Marie, Owner of Awāsis Boutique, an online children’s boutique. As a Filipino/Indigenous Mom of two, she launched Awāsis Boutique, which means child in Cree, as the first Indigenous inspired baby and kids fashion shop in Western Canada. After seeing a gap of Indigenous inspired clothing for babies/kids on the market in Canada, she set out to fill this gap. To not only provide little ones with fashion pieces that connect them with their language and culture, but to also educate others about the Indigenous culture.
With no formal business training, she has worked hard to grow her business from the ground up. She was a CBC Top 40 under 40 finalist in 2019 and now a selection of her products are made with authentic, Indigenous themed fabric prints, that she has designed herself. You can find her goods online and in the Wanuskewin Gift Shops, Ready Set Baby, Groovy Mama Shop + more.
Join us as we chat all about how being an Indigenous inspired business, means so much more to her than just a business. She’s setting out to do her part at revitalizing the Indigenous language, intentional education about the culture, giving back to organizations that support babies and families and act on the calls of reconciliation by engaging in relationships and business partnerships with non Indigenous people. This is such an incredible conversation, so tune in!
